Administrators can create structured career development paths using the Career Track builder. A career track defines job levels, competencies required at each level, and the positions associated with those levels.
These tracks allow the system to map employees to competency expectations based on their position.
To create a career track:
Step 1: Open Career Tracks
Navigate to Aspire.
Select Tracks.
Click + Career Track in the top-right corner.
This opens the Career Track Builder.
Career Track Builder Overview
The Career Track Builder allows administrators to:
Define job levels within a career path
Add or generate competencies
Create a competency matrix
Link positions to job levels
Publish or save the track as a draft
Tracks can be created manually or generated using AI.
Track Type Selection
At the top of the builder, administrators can choose the track type:
Individual Contributor
Designed for roles where employees progress through expertise and specialization rather than people management.
Manager
Designed for leadership roles that involve managing teams.
The selected track type determines how competencies and job levels are structured.
Adding Competencies
The Add Competencies section allows administrators to define the skills required within the career track.
Administrators can add competencies in two ways:
Generate Competencies (AI Powered)
Click Generate.
The system uses AI to generate recommended competencies for the track.
Administrators can regenerate competencies at any time if adjustments are needed.
Add Competencies Manually
Enter a competency in the Enter competency field.
Add it to the list.
Additional competencies can be added at any time.
Adding Job Levels
The Add Job Levels section defines the progression structure within the track.
Examples of job levels may include:
Junior Specialist
Specialist
Senior Specialist
Principal Specialist
Distinguished Specialist
Administrators can add job levels in two ways.
Generate Job Levels (AI Powered)
Click Generate.
AI suggests appropriate job levels for the track.
These levels can be edited or regenerated as needed.
Add Job Levels Manually
Administrators can manually enter job levels to match their organization's career structure.
Competency Matrix
After adding competencies and job levels, administrators must create a Competency Matrix.
The matrix maps:
Competencies (rows)
to
βJob Levels (columns)
This determines which competencies are required at each level of the career track.
Administrators can populate the matrix by:
Manually defining expectations for each level
Using AI generation within matrix cells to suggest competency descriptions
This matrix forms the foundation of employee competency evaluation within the track.
Linking Positions to Job Levels
For employees to be associated with competencies within Aspire, their position must be linked to a job level within an active career track.
To link positions:
Select the relevant Job Level within the track.
Click Link Position.
Choose one or more positions from the organization.
Important Notes
Multiple positions can be linked to a single job level.
Employees inherit competencies based on the job level associated with their position.
Competency tracking will only apply when:
The track is Active, and
A position is linked to a job level.
The career track builder includes the following controls.
Save for Later
Saves the track as a Draft.
Draft tracks:
Are not visible to employees
Can be edited later before publishing
Publish
Activates the career track.
Once published:
Positions linked to job levels become active
Competency expectations apply to employees in those positions
