This review type is designed to evaluate new hires relative to their hire date.

Step 1: Setup

In this step, you define when the Onboarding Review will be triggered relative to an employee’s hire date. This allows organizations to capture feedback at key milestones during the onboarding journey.

Timing Configuration

You can configure review triggers based on specific timeframes before or after an employee’s hire date.

Available options include:

  • X Days Before Hire Date – Schedule a review prior to a milestone (useful for pre-onboarding check-ins)

  • X Days After Hire Date – Trigger reviews shortly after joining to capture early feedback

  • X Months After Hire Date – Schedule reviews at later onboarding milestones (e.g., 3-month or 6-month reviews)

This flexible configuration ensures that feedback is collected at meaningful stages of the employee’s onboarding experience.

Step 2: Process

In this step, you define how the onboarding review will be conducted, including evaluation types, additional components, and template selection.

1. Assessment Types

Select the types of evaluations to include:

  • Self Review – New hires reflect on their onboarding experience and performance

  • Manager Review – Managers assess the employee’s early progress and alignment

  • Contributor Review – Peers provide feedback on collaboration and integration

  • Upward Review – Employees share feedback on their manager’s support during onboarding

2. Optional Components

Enhance the review with additional elements:

  • Employee Total Score – Provides an overall performance score

  • Goals (Assessment / Creation)

    • Evaluate progress on any initial goals

    • Create new goals for continued development

  • Competencies – Assess performance against defined competencies

3. Template Selection

Choose how templates are applied across review steps:

  • One Template – Use a single template for all assessment types

  • Multiple Templates – Assign different templates per review step

Template Control (advanced template overrides by department, position, or location) is not available for Onboarding Reviews.

Step 3: Participants

In this step, you define the population of employees included in the onboarding review cycle.

Participants are typically determined based on hire date, but you can still control inclusion.

Participant Selection Options

  • Create List
    Manually select employees to include in the review cycle.
    Ideal when you want precise control over onboarding cohorts.

  • Upload List
    Upload a predefined list of employees using a CSV file.
    Useful when onboarding groups are managed externally.

This ensures that only relevant employees are included in the onboarding review process.

Step 4: Settings

In this step, you configure how the review operates across different reviewer roles and how scoring is handled.

This setup is consistent with standard review cycles and includes:

  • Reviewers
    Configure rules for Self, Manager, Contributor, and Upward reviews, including approvals and delegation

  • Score Weight
    Define how each review step contributes to the overall score

  • Score Visibility
    Control how scores are displayed and who can view them

  • Goal Review
    Configure goal assessment and/or goal creation

Step 5: Timeline

In this step, the review schedule is automatically generated based on the employee’s hire date and the timing configuration defined earlier.

Fixed Timeline Behavior

  • Review events are automatically scheduled relative to the hire date

  • Open and Close events cannot be modified

  • Ensures a structured and consistent onboarding review experience

Automated Notifications

  • Notifications are automatically triggered based on the defined schedule

  • Includes email and in-app alerts with direct access to review tasks

This ensures timely communication throughout the onboarding review process.

Step 6: Summary

The Summary step provides a complete overview of your onboarding review configuration before launch.

Review the Following Sections:

Verify all details to ensure accuracy.

Final Action – Launch the Review

Click Launch Now to initiate the onboarding review cycle.

Once launched:

  • Reviews are triggered based on hire date and configured timing

  • Participants receive automated notifications

  • The process follows the defined structure and schedule
