Goals: Importing Individual Goals

Bulk import goals

The Import Goals feature allows administrators to bulk upload employee goals using a CSV file. This streamlines goal creation and ensures consistent formatting when managing goals at scale.

Accessing Goal Import

  • Navigate to the Goals section

  • Select Import Goals

  • The Import CSV modal will appear

This modal allows administrators to configure file formatting before uploading.

1. Select Date Format

Choose the date format used inside your CSV file.

Available Formats

  • MDY (Month / Day / Year)

  • DMY (Day / Month / Year)

  • YMD (Year / Month / Day)

  • MYD

  • DYM

  • YDM

The selected format must match all dates inside the CSV file, including:

  • Goal Due Dates

  • Key Result Due Dates

Incorrect date formatting may cause validation failures during import.

2. Select Delimiter

Choose the separator used within the CSV file.

Supported Delimiters

  • Comma (,)

  • Semi-colon (;)

  • Pipe (|)

  • Caret (^)

  • Tab

The delimiter selected in the modal must match the delimiter used in the uploaded file.

Uploading the File

You can upload the CSV file in two ways:

  • Drag and drop the file into the upload area

  • Click Browse to select the file manually

Sample CSV Breakdown

The downloadable sample CSV includes multiple examples demonstrating different goal configurations and Key Result types. Each row in the file represents a single goal assigned to an employee.

The sample demonstrates:

  • Goals with and without Key Results

  • Public and Private goal visibility

  • Different Key Result measurement types

  • Goal and Key Result weighting structures

  • Proper formatting for dates, metrics, and ownership

Validation Includes:

  • Required fields present

  • Valid employee email addresses

  • Correct date formatting

  • Valid delimiter structure

  • Supported Key Result types

  • Proper numeric values for weights and targets

Import Results

After upload:

  • Successfully imported goals are created automatically

  • Validation errors are displayed with row-level feedback

  • Failed rows can be corrected and re-uploaded

Key Notes

  • Goal titles and descriptions have a maximum character limit of 250 characters

  • Key Result titles and descriptions also have a maximum character limit of 250 characters

  • Weight is number/integer can be a decimal (one digit)

  • If a Key Result uses the NUMBER type:

    • The Metric field is required

    • The Number field must contain a valid numeric target value

  • Ensure date formats in the CSV match the selected date format during import

  • Employee email addresses must match existing users in the organization

  • Goals can be imported with or without Key Results

  • Each goal supports up to five Key Results

  • Visibility* values must use supported options and are case sensitive:

    • PUBLIC

    • PRIVATE

  • Invalid rows will fail validation and must be corrected before re-uploading

  • Using the downloadable example CSV is recommended to ensure proper formatting before import
