In the Template Builder, you can easily customize the structure of your performance review by dragging and dropping components from the left panel into the template workspace. This allows you to organize the review content and include all relevant sections in the desired order.

Available Components:

  • Add Description : The Add Description component is used to insert instructional or contextual text into the review template. This is a non-interactive section that does not require a response but helps guide reviewers by providing important information.

    • Insert a text-only section to provide context or instructions for reviewers.

    • Useful for introducing a section or guiding users on how to complete it.

    • This block does not require a response from the reviewer.

    • Rich Text Editor
The editor supports basic formatting options to structure your content clearly:

      • Bold, Italic, and Underline

      • Bullet and Numbered lists

      • Hyperlinks to external or internal resources

    • Character Limit

      • Each description block supports up to 5,000 characters.

      • A live character counter is displayed in the lower-right corner of the editor to help manage content length.

    • Common Use Cases:

      • Introduce a section with instructions

      • Provide context about goals, competencies, or scoring

      • Include reminders or review policies

    • Once you’ve entered and formatted your text, click Save to add the description to your template.

Add Goal Review: The Add Goal Review component allows you to define how goals will be evaluated during the performance review. This section applies to each individual goal included in the review cycle and helps standardize goal-related feedback.

  • Adds a section for reviewers to assess progress against previously set goals.

  • Typically used by managers or employees to reflect on goal completion and performance.

  • Configuration Options:

    • Review Question

      • Enter a custom question that will apply to all goals being reviewed.

      • Example: "Please use the scale below to rate how well this employee did with delivering on their goals."

    • Rating Type
Choose how reviewers should assess the goals:

      • Scale – Set a numeric range (e.g., 1 to 5)

      • Star Ratings – Use a star-based visual scale

    • Enhance Your Question

      • Include Comments Field: Enable reviewers to add contextual feedback.

      • Create Rules: Configure conditional logic (e.g., require comments if a low or high score is selected).

  • How It Works:

    • The same question and rating type will be applied to each goal selected in the review.

    • Goal selection happens separately in the review builder when setting up the cycle.

  • Preview Section:

    • At the bottom of the form, a live preview shows how the question will appear to reviewers, reflecting the chosen scale and enhancements.

  • This component can be added only once per template. After being added, it is removed from the components list and cannot be inserted again.

  • Once you’ve entered and updated your changes, click Save.

Add Goal Creation: The Add Goal Creation component inserts a designated section in the review template for employee goal entry or manager-assigned goals.

  • Allows employees to define new goals directly during the review process.

  • Useful for setting future objectives aligned with organizational expectations.

  • Key Details:

    • A placeholder message appears upon adding this component:

"Employee goal creation or Manager goal assignment will appear here for the employee."

    • During the review process, this section will dynamically populate based on the configuration:

      • Employees will see an interface to create new goals.

      • Managers will be able to assign goals if permitted by the review setup.

  • This component can be added only once per template. After being added, it is removed from the components list and cannot be inserted again.

  • This ensures that the goal creation process is centralized and structured within the review, avoiding duplication.

Add Competency: The Add Competency component is used to evaluate employees based on competencies tied to their role or career path. These competencies are pulled from the organization’s career matrix and are automatically linked based on the employee’s position in the system.

  • Integrates one or more competencies from the competency framework into the template.

  • Reviewers can assess how well the employee meets role-specific or organization-wide competencies.

  • Configuration Options:

    • Competency Review Question

      • Enter a question that will be used to evaluate each assigned competency.

      • This question will be repeated for every competency associated with the employee.

    • Rating Type
Choose how reviewers will rate the competency:

      • Scale – Define a numeric rating range (e.g., 1 to 5)

      • Star Ratings – Use a visual star-based scale

    • Enhance Your Question

      • Include Comments Field: Option to allow or require written feedback along with the rating.

      • Create Rules: Set conditional logic (e.g., require comments if the lowest or highest score is selected).

  • Automation:

    • Competencies are automatically pulled into the review based on those linked to the employee’s position in the Pathing system—no manual selection is needed during template setup.

  • Preview Section:

    • A real-time preview box shows how the final competency review question will appear, including the rating control and any additional options enabled.

  • This component can be added only once per template. After being added, it is removed from the components list and cannot be inserted again.

  • Once you’ve entered and updated your changes, click Save.

  • You have ability to define Score Weighting by toggling the button. You can choose which attributes need to be included for Score weight and how much each weigh.

  • If you choose an attribute and do not include the component, it will not let you save and make the template ready. Make sure to add the components whose weight has been defined.

  • You can always check preview as and when you build your template by clicking on Employee Preview.

  • You have ability to reorder, edit and delete the questions using the buttons in the right hand side.

  • You have ability to make the question optional or add “Not Applicable” option.

  • You must add in scores for all your questions, total sum yielding to 100. In this example, 2 question weigh 50 each.

  • You can select Save as Draft if you want the template to be added as draft, so that you can go back again and modify.

  • You can select Save as Ready if you are happy with the attributes in the template.

  • You should be able to locate your template in the list view.
