Purpose of Rules

Rules are primarily used to require a comment when specific response conditions are met. This adds depth to numeric or rating-based feedback by collecting explanations or justifications for certain selections.

Structure of a Rule

Each rule follows a basic logic structure:

IF [response option] is selectedTHEN Comment is required

For example:

  • IF 1 is selected → THEN Comment is required
This can help gather insight into why the lowest score was given.

You can define multiple rules to cover various scoring scenarios (e.g., extremes like 1 or 5 in a 1–5 scale).

Supported Use Cases

Rules can be applied to:

  • Scale questions (e.g., 1–5, 1–7, etc.)

  • Star rating questions

  • Multiple choice (in other contexts)

Adding Rules

To add a rule:

  1. Toggle Create Rules to ON.

  2. Click Select Rule and choose the response value (e.g., 1, 5).

  3. Confirm that the comment field becomes required for that selection.

  4. Use + Add New Rule to define additional conditions if needed.

Benefits of Using Rules

  • Promotes thoughtful responses where ratings alone aren’t sufficient

  • Helps identify reasoning behind outlier scores

  • Encourages balanced and constructive feedback from reviewers
